Q: Will I be receiving instruction from LAAA teachers?
A: Yes, your courses will be taught by LAAA teachers.
Q: Do I have to remain in the AVA Program for the entire school year?
A: Yes, you would need to make a full year commitment to this program since face-to-face capacity is not guaranteed.
Q: Will I have the opportunity to move from the AVA Program to traditional face-to-face learning in the next school year?
A: You will have an opportunity to inform us of your preference for the following school year during the School Choice period. You will have to submit a Choice application by the due date in order to receive preference on the wait list during the lottery process. You will be contacted if a position becomes available in your grade. The waitlist will remain active until September 30 of any given year.
Q: Will I be able to participate in sports, field trips and other school activities?
A: Yes, as an LAAA student, you will be able to participate in extracurricular programs and activities, which includes middle school sports, school musical and clubs.
Q: For a family with multiple students, do both students attend AVA or can one go live and the other AVA?
A: You can make this decision for each child individually, so one can join the AVA Program and the other can participate in traditional face-to-face(F2F) learning.
Q: What is the schedule for students in the AVA program?
A: The school schedule is similar for students in the AVA Program as for the students participating in the face-to-face (F2F)learning program. Students in grades 1-5 have classes each day from 8:40-3:05 and students in grades 6-8 have classes from 8:15-2:00pm.
Q: If a students starts the school year in the in-person program, can they switch back to AVA and when?
A: Due to staffing, students will need to remain in either program for the full school year. In special circumstances, we will consider requests to move from one program to another but it will be on a limited basis and depend on available spots.
Q: How will an IEP student be affected by this choice?
A: Students with IEPs will not be negatively impacted in the AVA Program. Students with IEPs will be supported in both learning environments.
Q: Will the AVA program be comparable to the in-person program regarding requirements, workload and structure? Will parents have the ability to request higher standards, more work, and have children pushed harder to meet full potential?
A: The AVA Program will have similar requirements, workload, structure and grading as the F2F program. We are always open to discussions with families about their child’s learning needs. We want to be sure every student is growing academically each year, so we can discuss ways to challenge students more if warranted.
Q: How will speech therapy students be impacted by the AVA choice?
A: There will not be an impact to special services, such as speech therapy, in the AVA Program. Students will receive speech therapy (and other supports as noted in their IEPs or 504 Plans) in both programs.
