Southern Delaware biliteracy school hopes for approval - WHYY

A proposed dual-language charter school in Georgetown, Delaware, is awaiting approval from the state Department of Education. The school, spearheaded by ASPIRA Delaware, aims to preserve cultural heritage while fostering academic excellence for the local Latino population, which constitutes over 50% of the area’s residents. With a vision to create pathways to biliteracy, the initiative is designed to empower students to embrace their cultural roots while thriving in the U.S. educational system. The proposed school will be housed in a historic Georgetown ice house, with plans to accommodate 400 students from kindergarten through fifth grade by its full completion.
